“At that time the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he went throughout the land of Gilead and Manasseh, including Mizpah in Gilead, and led an army against the Ammonites. And Jephthah made a vow to the LORD. He said, “If you give me victory over the Ammonites, I will give to the LORD the first thing coming out of my house to greet me when I return in triumph. I will sacrifice it as a burnt offering.” “So Jephthah led his army against the Ammonites, and the LORD gave him victory. He …

God told Andrea Yates to kill her children but unlike Abraham, Andrea wasn’t listening when God told her he was just kidding.
Too bad God tends to speak mostly to the insane.

Are you asking us to disprove God(or soul)? You can’t disprove something only show that something is very unlikely.

Supossedly it took god 40 days to give ten commandments to Moses. An all powerful god couldn’t just make the tablets appear in his hands? No wonder it took 40 days…he had to sit there and chisel down the damn rock with primitive tools then inscribe it. They were the ten commandments of control freak Moses, not god. Let’s get real people.

The thing is…all of the other tribes and peoples had never even heard of Yahweh. God NEVER personally spoke to them and told them that their ways were wrong. The only people god ever speaks to in the Bible are the leaders (or prophet) of the Israelite tribe at the time. So, it’s always one man relaying a message back to his people…they had to take his word on it. And they did, literally.

You so easily miss the relevant point of any input that it is becoming clear that you are unable to comprehend the language other than to make up your own version to support your fake god.
Good luck with your schooling.

The important element of the story is not the error that he made but that bible-god was perfectly OK with a human sacrifice.
No-one in their right mind in modern society would even think of offering a sacrifice to a god.
Unless you would?

You have found parts on the bible that are hard to believe and explain and defend rationally, have you not, Ahmalala?

true. Jesus also, warned not to make any such vows or oaths you may have no control over.

Well, I’m a Catholic, not a Biblical literalist. I was taught that some Scriptural passages are literally true, but that even the literally true passages have deeper, symbolic meanings.
The symbolic meaning of the Abraham story is that you should love God more than any person or thing. And if you do, God will bless you and yours. That’s the symbolic meaning of the story.
No actual sons were even inconvenienced in the making of that story, I’m sure.

But this actual sacrifice of Jephthah’s, or the potential sacrifice of Abraham’s, are SYMBOLIC. You should love God above all other people or things. And since Jesus sacrificed Himself, there’s no need for (even physical) human sacrifices anymore. The only sacrifices required are SELF-sacrifices–giving up things you’d like to do that aren’t right, or doing things for other people instead of for yourself.

I am not justifying that. I was pointing out that he was in fact commanded to do it by the LORD (caps in Bible).

Jephthah was compelled by God’s law to follow through.
Numbers 30:2 (New International Version)
When a man makes a vow to the LORD or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said.
It is a lesson to not make that sort of vow but at the same time, it is a lesson on following through with a vow no matter what.

judaism is a henothiestic nationalistic religion. put some Roman propaganda in the form of astrology and it will be christianity. twist it and add some zoroastrian elements and voila, Islam.

You seem to forget/not notice that everyone has a different way of seeing things. e.g; I don’t interpret the story of abraham going to sacrifice his son the same as you, and most other christians, do. What if he considers his moral law different than we do? What if he interprets killing/murdering different than we do? So on and so forth.
Just something to think about

It was Jephthah mistake. One reason for the importance of the story in the bible is prevent that anybody else make a similar mistake.

God told Abraham to sacrifice him to show that he ultimately will not accept human ssacrifices cause its not something HE would ask for. God did not command Jephthah to sacrifice his daughter, instead he offered a sacrifice, which unfortunately was his daughter who he felt he had to sacrifice.
